Affogato with Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

Cool, creamy, and rich with bold coffee flavour, this classic affogato is a simple Italian dessert that always feels special. Made with homemade vanilla ice cream and hot coffee, it’s the perfect balance of hot and cold, sweet and strong.

Serves
2–4 portions

Ingredients

Vanilla ice cream
250ml double cream
200ml whole milk
100g caster sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt

Affogato
2–3 scoops vanilla ice cream per serving
2 tsp instant coffee per serving
60ml hot water per serving

Instructions

In a bowl, whisk together double cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar has dissolved.
Pour into the ice cream maker and churn for 45–60 minutes until smooth and creamy.
Transfer to a container and freeze until firm.

To serve, place scoops of vanilla ice cream into glasses or bowls.
Dissolve instant coffee in hot water and stir well.
Pour the hot coffee over the ice cream and let it melt slightly into the cream.
Finish with three light coffee swirls on top.
Serve immediately and enjoy.
