Gluten Free Hot Cross Buns

Nothing says Easter more than traditional Hot Cross Buns with a nice cup of tea!

Why not trying healthier version?

This easy recipe will make you a delicious batch of healthy Gluten Free Paleo Hot Cross Buns.



300g almond flour or ground almonds

1 tbsp coconut flour

1/4 cup coconut oil

1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda

3 tbsp honey or maple syrup

zest of 2 clementines

2 eggs

1 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

½ cup raisins

½ cup sultanas


1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper or use muffin tins.

2. Melt the coconut oil.

3. In a large mixing bowl, combine almond flour, bicarbonate of soda, honey or maple syrup, clementine zest, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg and dried fruit. Add the coconut oil & stir well.

4. Roll the dough into 12 even balls and place them on baking tray or in muffin tins.


In a bowl, mix the coconut flour with a teaspoon of water. Keep adding a tsp of water until the paste forms. Use this paste to paint the crosses.

5. Bake the buns in the oven for 20 minutes.

6. Serve & enjoy!
